stuff my 4yr old can't converse with me about

Sunday, January 1

It's midnight somewhere!

The Chester County Stitch n Bitcher's came to my house for what I had first titled the 'Loser's New Year's Party' because it ends way before midnight. However I think it turned out to be a perfect evening... it was only the knitters and their families so knitting was encouraged and there was no danger of non-knitter's raising eyebrows. (imagine pulling your knitting out at a regular New Year's Eve party). It was over by 10:30 because frankly children under the age of 7 turn into things far worse than pumpkins if you keep them up too late.

I think John figured out that by ringing in the New Year at 9pm we were officially celebrating an Azores New Year. (Correct me John if I'm wrong) However we did eat chinese food so I guess I should've catered accordingly. :) The kids had a great time and thought they were up VERY late. :) Susan's daughter Lydia could not believe her parents had her out way past "midnight". Even Kate's little Lydia got into the knitting mix at the ripe old age of two. (see pics in my album)

We had almost every generation present (even one in utero) and Podzi's daughter Sarah had her very first knitting lesson by the master knitter Cindy who we refer to as our Yoda. Sarah is a born knitter - she was flying through her first garter stitch scarf after one quick lesson.

Lauren discovered two hours into the party that she made a fashion mistake while dressing that evening, but I'll let her tell you all about it. Her boys really got into the gingerbread house demolition.

I now believe the best parties are the ones in which the hostess is asked "do you have a ball winder?"

For all the pics see my album here.

  • I'll confess that Dave and I did not go anywhere last night. We sat on the sofa and I knit a new hat. I put the knitting down at 11:59 to have another sip of champagne and for my midnight kiss. Knitting was picked back up at 12:01. Happy New Year!

  • Thanks again for hosting the *perfect* New Year's Eve party! I was in bed sleeping happily when the real midnight tolled. My girls will be bragging to their little friends about how they got to stay up until after midnight...hee! (I'll never tell!)

  • mom and I were comfortably on the couch knitting. mom finished her first scarf all by herself and I finished a different scarf for her as well. I'd say it was a success and a great start to 2006!!!!

S is convinced that I need some type of therapy over my compulsive knitting habits.

  • Oh nina you would've loved it - Jenny you too. I think we may make it a yearly tradition so feel free to come next year.
